Historie Hofstede Villetta

The foundation stone of Villetta was laid in 1841 with the purpose of a ‘hofstede’ (old word for a big farm house) and has had an agricultural destinationfor over 150 years. In 1904 the house was renovated and got his current name (bricked in the facade). From the ’70 onwards Villetta was one of the first fame houses that also had a mini-campside; established under the name of ‘recreatiehoeve Villetta’. Ever since there has been the possibility to spend the night on the grounds of Villetta. In 1984 around 16 places for mobile homes where created around the homestead (the maximum legal number during that time). In 1993 the vacant agricultural shed was converted to a space with 4 rooms and 4 appartments. This recreational expantion created some agitation within the quiet village of Zonnemaire. In 2008 the ground floor of the barn behind the house was converted to the current bed and breakfast. The ground belonging to the farm house was sold and devided in Parc Villetta (2006) and Parc Villemaire (2009) on which cottages were build and sold to private owners. Several of those cottages are rented out for short term stay.
